The PBS crew has four hour-long feline-focused features for all you cat lovers out there. Big cat lovers that is. Because, you know, these cats are humongous. You've got leopards and tigers and lions and more lions. That's nearly four hours of bounding about nature with animals that can scratch the crap out of you.
* "Revealing the Leopard"
Leopards are big and cool, but judging by this documentary, they appear to be looked down upon by the rest of the food chain. Their cute little cubs often succumb to violent death (by baboons no less) and lions aren't afraid to chase them up trees. Then again, they hunt tusked warthogs, so they have that going for them.
* "Siberian Tiger Quest"
I reviewed this one as a stand-along release and it's pretty awesome. An Asian researcher leaves his family for months at a time and hunkers down in a dug out shelter to wait patiently for a glimpse of the ultra-shy Siberian Tiger. Every few months his assistant shows up to remove trash and stool. Like I said, awesome!
* "Elsa's Legacy: The Born Free Story"
A look at the real couple behind the feature film Born Free, this documentary blends current-day interviews with home movie footage and photos from George and Joy Adamson.
* "The White Lions"
Sounds like a British pop band, but is, in fact, a documentary about lions that are white. White lions are rare, so to get cameras on a pair of cubs is impressive.
That's it. Just four documentaries from the long-running PBS series Nature. But it's a tight package and cat-heavy. What else do you need? (And if you said extra features, then, yeah, you're not going to get any of that.)
Not guilty. Fancy Feast for everyone!
