Exercise routines adapted from ABC's hit show.
Three dancers from ABC's monster celebrity ballroom blitz, Dancing with the Stars, don the form-fitting spandex to take your tubby rear end through some low-impact exercises built around three specific dance styles: Latin, Tango and Freestyle. Your three hosts are Kym, Dmitry and Lacey, which hopefully means more to you than it does to me.
Here's how the DVD is laid out -- from the start you can choose the workout you want (each running 15 minutes) and cap it off with a five-minute cooldown. The Latin routine focuses on the torso, waist and hips and includes four dances: the Mambo, the Cha-Chah, the Merengue and the Rumba. The Tango's specialty is the legs and butt and features moves known as "Gaucho," which is all about lunges and "flicks" (their word). Freestyle, a full-body workover, goes into jazz and funk territory.
These routines are far from gut-killers. The movements are obviously designed to be sculpting and tonal, implemented to build cardio effectiveness, not necessarily shed pounds at warp speed. I suppose you could drop sizes by going all out or attaching boat anchors to your ankles as you throw down another Rumba, but the target here seems to be general health and a lithe frame.
The presentation is what you'd expect, clean and bright and packed full of shockingly tan and attractive professional dancers and exercise back-ups tearing up the dance floor.
The DVD sports a 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen, 2.0 stereo and a few workout options. You can customize your own routine using something called the "custom dance matrix," which sounds a lot more awesome than a basic program function, and a music-only alternative, freeing you from the encouraging words of the exercise leaders.
