The Charge

Take the "work" out of your workouts and just dance! (Their words).

The Case

The lovely and fit Mari Forleo, a ubiquitous presence on fitness DVDs, is your dance leader for this round of aerobic grooving. Tummy Tone Part Zone is another installment in the popular Dance Off the Inches series, which features dance steps in lieu of orthodox cardio moves to trim the waistline.

Here, Forleo runs point for a series of steps designed to tackle the midriff (though don't all of these DVDs have that ultimate goal in mind anyway?). The routines don't appear terribly complicated and a 10-minute step guide, hosted by Forleo, prefaces the workout and supplies a sufficient tutorial.

The entire 40-minute workout is chopped up into separated routines, culminating into an extended ab program that takes the exercise to the fitness floor mat. These workouts struck me as the most hard-hitting of the program, and the most belly-oriented, featuring your typical array of crunches and lifts and inverted whatevers. The dancing stuff, while dynamic enough, didn't appear too strenuous.

A solid presentation from top to bottom: the program takes place in a wide-open area (actually it looked like an emptied out set from QVC), giving plenty of room to Forleo and her back-up squad. The music was fast-paced and appropriate for the routines, though I wouldn't necessarily classify the tunes as "catchy."
