The Charge

God's gift to home shopping.

Opening Statement

The best part of this film is Kelly Preston, which ain't saying much.

The Evidence

Kelly Preston. Ah, what can one say about Kelly Preston? Yeah, she's nice to look at. But, what with her going home to John Travolta every night, what chance does a guy have? Not much. As for this movie, she actually exhibited some acting talent, unlike some of her other films. Whatever.

The picture here actually isn't all that bad. Colors were deep and rich and blacks were fairly solid. It certainly could have been better. The sound quality is about as good as one can expect with a film of this nature. This film is totally dialogue driven so don't expect much from your processor or effects speakers, including the LFE.

The Rebuttal Witnesses

Holy Man is trying to be a comedy with a message. It fails on both accounts. It is neither funny nor does it deliver any substantive message. Now you know why I thought Kelly Preston was the best thing about the disc. The writing was shallow and unfocused. The acting was terrible. Eddie Murphy was much, much better in Dr. Doolittle. Jeff Goldblum hasn't been good in anything since The Fly, or maybe even The Big Chill. Why bother casting him in a role like this? Frankly, this might have been funnier had Murphy been let off his chain a bit more to do his things, but alas it was not to be.

No extras at all. None. Not even a trailer. Nothing. Zip. Zilch. Nada.

Closing Statement

Frankly, I'm not going to waste too much breath describing this disc because it was so bad.

The Verdict

Guilty. If only the Verdict had a death penalty. Our lowest rated disc of all time (so far).
