The Charge

It's time to have some fun in the sun!

The Case

The energetic characters from Roger Hargreaves' books come to life in Little Miss Sunshine: Fun in the Sun!, a collection of six amusing episodes from the The Mr. Men Show, which offers young viewers a series of short adventures featuring all kinds of bright, funny characters who all have instantly recognizable personalities.

This time around, Little Miss Sunshine and her buddies Mr. Stubborn, Mr. Grumpy, Mr. Strong, Miss Helpful, Miss Naughty, and many others visit the fair, enter the wilderness, spend the day at the beach, explore a lake, have some fun at an amusement park, and dive into the field of science by paying a visit to a museum. Yes, the settings and adventures these little folks encounter are quite diverse.

Little Miss Sunshine: Fun in the Sun! is a collection of shorts appealing mostly to kiddies, who I'm sure get a kick out of watching these silly, yet entertaining characters jump around the screen having all kinds of fun. The drawings here are simple yet bright and harmless, the voices are very enjoyable, and even some of the songs are vibrant and original. All in all, this is just the right kind of television entertainment for kids wanting to goof around and have a laugh.

The DVD also comes with a section of special features titled "Fun Activities." Some are unnecessary, but others are fun. One I particularly like is "How to Draw Little Miss Sunshine," a rather easy onscreen guide to drawing this yellow little character. The bonus material also includes a little dance segment and a little game asking viewers to find and count Little Miss Sunshine in a drawing. Also, the DVD comes with a small story booklet that should keep the younger ones busy for a few extra minutes after the show.

Little Miss Sunshine: Fun in the Sun! boasts simple animation and solid colors, and the 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen presentation accompanying this disc does a nice job. The audio transfer works just as well for this kind of material.

Fans of the books should definitely check out this collection; it will entertain your small ones for at least an hour. It's a silly, funny show with colorful episodes the kids will want to watch over and over again.

The Verdict

Not guilty.
