If you want perfect arms, a perfect belly, perfect buns & thighs, a perfect silhouette, or a perfect stretch, in only 10 minutes, then you've been watching too much TV. But 10 Minute Solution: Pilates Perfect Body is a fast way to incorporate a core workout into your busy day, even if the Pilates term might be used a little liberally here.
The 10 Minutes Solution: Pilates Perfect Body incorporates five 10-minute segments that include Pilates Perfect Arms, Pilates Perfect Belly, Pilates Perfect Buns & Thighs, Pilates Perfect Silhouette and Pilates Perfect Stretch. The routines are led by Suzanne Bowen.
The best thing about this DVD is the "DVD Bonus!" which allows you to customize the order of the five workout segments (described above). You can choose to start off with the Pilates Perfect Stretch and move to Pilates Perfect Belly, or any number of sequences that fit your exercise needs and time constraints. There's nothing worse than having to stop and fast forward through a whole segment or two when you only have 30 minutes for a workout and NEED to hit your abs. This DVD alleviates that problem.
However, if you're a beginner who needs to modify multiple exercises then this DVD is probably not for you. While the moves are not super challenging, I'd rate them advanced beginner to intermediate level. They are not explained very well and seldom is a modified version offered. While the instructor, Suzanne Bowen, has the cred (AFAA certified group fitness and Practical Pilates instructor with 10 years professional experience) and the abs to back up her perkiness, there's only 10 minutes per segment and to really get in a good workout the exercises click along.
To Suzanne's credit she is a good narrator, keeping her breath steady and the pace moving without once mentioning a mini skirt or a bikini (which may be inspiring to some, but is also plain cheesy). Her moves are interesting and diverse. Although if you're a Pilates purist who must do a back roll or a lot of slow bending at the waist then this DVD is also not for you. Suzanne starts with a modified one hundred in the Pilates Perfect Belly section -- the standard Pilates ab exercise -- but then moves on to many exercises I've never encountered, and I've been practicing Pilates (granted, mainly the DVD version of Pilates) for four or five years.
The Pilates Perfect Silhouette and the Pilates Perfect Stretch are nice additions on this DVD as the silhouette incorporates a bit of ballet while the stretch segment winds everything down. If you need a physical way to unwind at the end of the day without really breaking a sweat these two sections are perfect -- and really a dancer's body is sometimes as close to perfect as possible.
If you are attracted to Pilates in a masochistic way, because you know it's going to leave you screamingly sore the next day, then this DVD is not for you. I was able to bounce out of bed without a thought to my perfect belly. Or if you are the aspiring Pilates practice who needs palm trees or slapping waves to truly feel Zen then this DVD is also not for you as it is set in a hard wood floored studio.
This is a fast and fun DVD that is perfect to incorporate into a more extensive workout regime. The customizable workout plan should be included on every exercise DVD.
