The Charge

The anthology of the elimination chamber.

The Case

The Elimination Chamber is a WWE segment that debuted in 2002. In this supposedly inescapable cage (that seems to feature an awful lot of Plexiglas), six wrestlers are dumped in to battle it out in a no-holds-barred brawl, where winners are determined by pinfall or submission. Four of the superstars begin the bout locked away in little pods, and two kick things off in the ring. Then, every five minutes, one of the pods "randomly" opens and the craziness gets pumped up a notch.

The Elimination Chamber is a decent conceit that lets the WWE writers and wrestlers go crazy with the mayhem and the plot twists. Nearly everyone ends up bloody (to keep the "gladiatorial" feel of the event going), there are special moves up the butt and, it has to be said, the live audiences eat it up.

If you wish to relive some of your favorite moments, WWE's DVD will do that -- and not much else. The 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen (earlier, full frame matches have some funky bars on each side to fill it out) is clean and 2.0 stereo mix gets the grunting right. But a handful of promos are it for extras.

The Verdict

Not Guilty. Satan is pleased with your use of his prison.
