Take the work out of your workout and just dance.
Anchor Bay's Dance Off the Inches series is geared toward folks who may be resistant to overly-strenuous workouts, and want something more fun and easygoing to torch the cellulite from their ample drumsticks. This installment of the franchise concerns itself with salsa dancing, and the quick, contained movements therein. For 30-plus minutes, gear up to sweat like there's no tomorrow as you try and keep up with a bunch of women who are in better shape than you can over hope to be.
The head shapely woman is dance leader Stella Sandoval, and she's buttressed by five equally fit women. Together, they'll take you through three different dance sequences: "Spicy Salsa Mix," "Mucho Mambo Combo" and "Latin Lime Twist." The routines are book-ended by a warm-up and cool-down workout. The individuals workouts didn't strike me as drastically different from each other (you're never on the floor or hefting weights or anything), though the moves are varied enough to work different parts of the body. Still, the purpose of the workout isn't to build mass or even define muscles, but to burn calories and get you moving.
To that effect, it's a great little disc. If I were a dancer or inclined to try and dance, this routine would be attractive. Though the moves may be a bit confusing for the salsa n00b, the flexibility of DVD goes a long way in softening the learning curve (read: pause, rewind, slow-motion). Also of help is the 15-minute step guide accompanying the workout, where Sandoval escorts you through the moves you'll need.
If you're looking for an active, energetic workout disc, slickly produced and populated by dynamic floor leaders -- and if salsa dancing grabs you -- you should have no trouble getting your groove on with Sizzling Salsa.
