"The Girl From Impanema" sold separately.

The Case

I've always wanted to be a Jazz enthusiast, in the way that George Costanza always wanted to pretend that he was an architect -- in other words, I've always dreamed of attaining Jazzbo status without having to do any of the heavy lifting.

You see, I don't always like jazz when I hear it, and even more often, I don't get jazz when I'm listening to it:

Wait a minute! This is supposed to be "My Favorite Things"? What happened to the melody? How about the chorus? Where is THE SONG?!

Stan Getz Quartet: Live At Montreux, 1972 assembles a dream team of musicians around the famed tenor saxophonist, including: Stanley Clarke, plucking and bowing double bass, Chick Corea on acoustic and electric piano, and Tony Williams on drums.

The set list features compositions by Corea (unless otherwise noted)...

"Captain Marvel"
"Day Waves"
"Lush Life" (Composed by Billy Strayhorn)
"I Remember Clifford" (Composed by Benny Golson)
"La Fiesta"
"Time's Lie"

None of the numbers feature lyrics, and likewise, no words can do justice to the swirling eddy of musical magic emanating from this foursome. While I can't imagine purists not digging it just as deeply, this set may represent the ultimate "get into Jazz free" pass for those of us partial to other musical genres.

Tech heads take note: Those musicologists at Eagle Rock Entertainment offer up the concert in full frame, with three audio options: Dolby Digital 2.0 stereo, Dolby Digital 5.1 surround, and DTS Digital surround sound, so set your players accordingly. All any interested parties need to know, however, is the show looks and sounds like it was taped yesterday.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is the certified Sha-dizzle.

The Verdict

Not guilty.
