All Rise...Judge David Johnson won an all-expenses paid vacation to Bunnytown. He was mugged and beaten and left for dead. The ChargeHop and bop where the fun doesn't stop. The CaseThis is my first exposure to Disney's Bunnytown and I have to say: it's a charmer. The show is essentially sketch comedy for toddlers, with simple bunny puppets acting as the not-ready-for-prime-time players.
Here's how episodes typically unspool: bunny puppets sing and dance, bunny puppets sing and dance some more, bunny puppets engage in simple but amusing skits, the first of two recurring live-action sequences kick off, this one involving two mute idiots, more bunny puppets singing, more bunny puppets dancing, the live-action gag, a goofy sporting competition of some kind hosted by a bubbly blonde lady, more bunny puppets doing their thing and there you go. Sure, it's featherweight on paper, but in execution, Bunnytown works: the musical numbers are fun, the voice work is entertaining (has to be the Australian accents) and the energy level is always high.
This set brings together four episodes that aren't necessarily tied together with a theme; in fact, none of the episodes are theme-based. They're just happy little assemblages of kid-oriented bunny comedy. The shows on disc: "Hello Bunnies!"
My not-having-kids recommendation to parents out there: check this series out. There's a lot to like in it and I'm sure your offspring will get a kick out of it, unless they hate bunnies or something. If that's the case, you and your bunny-hating kids should go away and stop bothering people. The DVD: full frame and 2.0 stereo all the way, but shows look and sound nice. Extras: the "It's That Time Again" game, a bunny dance-along and previews. The VerdictNot guilty. Insert your rabbit wordplay of choice.
