All Rise...Judge David Johnson feels the burn. He brushed up against a hot skillet the other night. The ChargeFunk off! The CaseGet ready to groove and bust a move with this beat-centric workout routine. Fitness guru Christi Taylor is your hostess for this 60-minute workout, and she's flush with all kinds of certifications and accolades and experience (for what it's worth). The set-up: the program takes place in a well-lit workout studio, with Christi, grinning it up nuclear-like, flanked by two other hard-bodied women. In the background, her son Justin sits at his drum-set, providing the beats that Christi and her cronies burn their calories to. The program is divided into four separate chunks: Funk Workouts 1 and 2, a strength routine, and a round of stretching. It totals an hour and some change and, from this layperson's perspective, should get you sweating nicely. Probably the main appeal will be the energy that Taylor has injected into this regimen. With her son pounding away effectively on the drums, the movement gets kinetic and fast. Plus she's bouncing around the whole time with a smile plastered on her face. I submit that should you take her up on her offer to get fit, you'll likely enjoy the program. Your hostess keeps things moving along nicely. As for the strenuousness of the workout, though I personally didn't participate (maybe if there were job perks for pulling my groin I would have), it appears to be more moderate than grueling. It is, after all, an hour long, though I don't think the program is meant to put the worker-outer through the entire 60-minute routine in one marathon session. To help you with all the choreography you'll have to know, Taylor walks you through the steps in a bonus feature. She goes through all the moves slowly and thoroughly, so I don't think you'll have a problem getting jiggy with it for the feature presentation. Beyond that, it's just previews, full frame, and stereo surround sound all the way. All in all, it's a solid fitness disc, made strong by a variety of workouts, a charismatic instructor, and an innovative incorporation of drum solos to augment the workouts.
