The Case

Ignore the lame title that sounds a bit too much like a documentary about prison rape. Get Ripped to the Core is an excellent, substantial fitness DVD, featuring some of the biggest bang for your buck I've seen in my seemingly endless experience watching releases like this.

Jari Love (not a porn star) hosts the program, and though she seems a bit skeletal, the girl is in shape and could very easily smite me with her razor-sharp abs. She's apparently a certified instructor and all that, wrote a low fat cookbook and owns a pile of Canadian workout clubs. She is accompanied by thee other worker-outers, two girls and a guy.

Workouts focus on specific body parts and are broken down into five to seven minute routines, with the entire feature clocking in at just north of an hour. Each workout is performed on four levels, utilizing varying amounts of wait, geared toward different degrees of aerobic prowess. The guy in the background hoists the heavy weight and the other levels are distributed among the girlie girls (kidding! remember, "smite me with her razor-sharp abs?").

Each workout is prefaced with a detailed calorie counter, dependent on what strength level you decide to tackle. There's even a caloric breakdown per minute of activity. Snazzy, I suppose, for the dedicated number whores out there.

The presentation is simple and straightforward and I don't recall finding the background music atrocious. Bonus features include an interview with an exercise physiologist, a blooper reel and some previews. Solid package overall and I dig the integration of different levels within the workouts.
