All Rise...Higglytown has a great minor league baseball team. Judge David Johnson thinks their shortstop can go somewhere, if he can get over that whole "no-legs" thing. The ChargeLegless plastic people have so much to teach us! The CaseWelcome to Higglytown, a nice, sanitary place populated by oblong people with hollowed-out intestines. Higglytown holds their working professionals in very high regard, and each 12-minute episode focuses on one of these folks. As our main characters Eubie, Wayne, Twinkle, Kip and Fran do whatever it is they do, they ultimately find themselves in need of assistance from one of Higglytown's finest, and, with a welcoming song and some special effects, the honored career man/woman/canine shows up to defuse the situation. This collection of five episodes (totaling a few minutes shy of an hour) tackles the "rescue" motif, where the Higglytown protagonists need help with a problem, be it a hot-air balloon crash landing on a mountain or beach safety or a raging structure fire. • "Balloon-a-Palooza" • "Wayne's Day Out" • "Smells Like a Mystery" • "A Really Hot Day" • "Kip Joins the Circus" Another visit to Higglytown yields more educational, good-natured fun targeted for the really young saplings of your family. The computer animation isn't terribly impressive, but the character models are simplistically engaging. The show is a music-driven, and a couple of songs are usually packed into the brief runtime. The main thrust of Higglytown Heroes is the education component, as it introduces a variety of jobs through song and animation. To this effect, the show succeeds, and manages to bring some charm to the proceedings. Recommended for those of you looking to mix up the kiddos' DVD collection, and maybe teach them a thing or two about careers. A straight-forward DVD: full frame, 2.0 stereo (English and Spanish), with a bonus episode of JoJo's Circus riding shotgun.
