The Charge

Leave it all to me.

The Case

One of Nickelodeon's big money-makers, iCarly tells the riveting tale of a group of friends who do crazy stuff. Typical of all Nick shows not involving anthropomorphic sponges, sure, but thisone tosses in a wrinkle: Miranda Cosgrove's Carly operates a hugely popular online TV show—although, the very thought of who might be watching creeps me out.

Five episodes on this disc, headlined by "iSaved Your Life" and loosely tied together with an emphasis on Freddie Benson, Carly's neighbor and potential love interest.

• "iSaved Your Life" (Extended Version)
Freddie comes through in a big way and saves Carly from getting run over by a truck. Flush with gratefulness and hero worship, Carly realizes she might have feelings for the little guy. Awkward conversations ensue.

• "iQuit iCarly"
This TV movie details the tragic fissure that pops up between Carly and her best friend and co-host Sam. This leads to Carly dumping the program. Can the two pals mend their relationship before I lose interest?

• "iThink They Kissed"
More tension. When Sam gets wasted on gas at the dentist office, she accidentally lets slip that she kissed Freddie. This sends shockwaves through their friendship, until, approximately 17 minutes later, they get past it.

• "iTwins"
Sam's alleged twin shows up and drives Freddie crazy—he's sure that Carly and Sam are messing with him.

• "iMove Out"
Freddie can't take living with his mom anymore, so he moves out.

The show's a nuclear hit, and I reckon if I fell into the age bracket that comprises its target audience I wouldn't want to punch myself in the face. It's corny as all these teeny-bopper sitcoms are, but it's harmless.

The disc: full frame, 2.0 stereo, and a handful of goofy behind-the-scenes shorts with the actors.

The Verdict

Not Guilty. A worthy purchase for the iCarly fan in your life. And if that fan happens to be in his mid-40s and addicted to prescription medicine, please stop reading this review and call the authorities immediately.
