The Case

You want aerial photography of beautiful United Kingdom scenery? Here you go. Wainwright Walks brings you five hours worth of travelogue action spread out over three discs. The milieu: The Lake District, featuring the following episodes:

• "Haystacks"
• "Blencathra"
• "Castle Crag"
• "Scafell Pike"
• "Helvellyn"
• "Catbells"
• "Crinkle Crags and Bowfell"
• "Helm Cragg"
• "Pillar"

Granted all those episode titles sound like tertiary characters in a Harry Potter novel, but they're locales and you, lucky viewer, will have the opportunity to gaze upon their grandeur. And I'm not being snarky, either. These are jaw-dropping destinations and the heart of the series is gathering as much scenery in as possible with sweeping, helicopter-enabled photography.

Supplementing the visuals is some narrative guiding by Julia Bradbury, who retraces some of the famous hikes of well-known fellwalker and author/illustrator who traversed massive amounts of yardage during his life. Bradbury inputs trivia and anecdotes, while also speaking to locals along the way. Overall, a nice package, whose appeal is likely limited to those inclined to nature programs and foliage porn.

Episodes receive solid 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer and 2.0 stereo mixes. No extras.
