The Charge

Even the title makes me furious with anger.

The Case

NATURE OF CASE: Civil disobedience, rioting
VICTIM(S): approximately thirty (30) wounded civilians
SUSPECT(S): Ms. Mattie Fitzpatrick, Mr. Zack Cody, Mr. Martin Cody
INJURIES SUSTAINED: numerous burns, contusions and stab wounds

Cheevers High School: On Tuesday at approximately 6:30 PM, personnel from the Boston Police and Fire Department responded to an emergency call. Upon arriving at the scene at Cheevers High School, officers reported a scene of barely restrained chaos, requiring excessive use of tear gas, riot gear and tasers to restore order. Fire Department officials put out several small fires reportedly caused by gasoline-soaked rags wrapped around plastic chairs, hurled into various rooms throughout the school.

Eyewitness reports suggest that the high school had put on a production of a musical, "High School Musical," which following a sequence of events set off a riot, with numerous civilian injuries reported. Officers learned that the major event sparking the riot was the revealing of the star performer, a Ms. London Tipton (Brenda Song) as lip-syncing her musical number. Police restrained Ms. Tipton for her own safety, interrupting her performance. Ms. Tipton was upset and informed officers at the scene in no uncertain terms that she would "have our badges for this" and that her father "owned the city." Upon later investigation, the latter assertion proved to be correct, but after further discussion with Mr. Tipton and Chief of Police Frank O'Halloran, it was agreed that no further action will be taken against the Boston Police Department. Ms. Tipton has not been charged and has been released.

Apprehended at the scene were a Mr. Zack Martin and a Mr. Cody Martin (Dylan and Cole Sprouse), twin brothers who were front and center during the disturbance. One of the individuals was responsible for a performance malfunction that revealed a fourth collaborator, Ms. Maddie Fitzpatrick (Ashley Tisdale, High School Musical) behind the stage with a microphone, singing in lieu of Ms. Tipton. Once this was revealed to the audience, a full-fledged riot broke out, with patrons quickly fashioning makeshift weapons from the program guides and plastic chairs. Numerous injuries, burns and contusions were reported, with victims rushed to Boston General Hospital. One patient, a Mr. M. Moseby (Phill Lewis), a Tipton Hotel concierge, is reportedly in critical care after throwing himself bodily in front of a flaming chair hurled towards Ms. Tipton.

The Martin brothers were released into the protective custody of their mother, a Tipton Hotel employee and resident, Ms. Carey Martin (Kim Rhodes, As the World Turns) who repeatedly apologized to police for her sons' bad behavior. When interrogated as to their involvement in the deception, the boys plead innocent, assuring officers the scheme was for "the greater good." According to early reports received by the Police Department, rehearsals with Ms. Tipton had gone haphazardly. One eyewitness reports suggests that a student told Ms. Tipton her singing was "considered a capital crime in all 50 states and Puerto Rico."

The student who made the comment above has been identified as the late Mr. Matt Stephenson. His identity was confirmed as matching the headless and handless corpse discovered in the Boston Reservoir last week (see previous week's Police Blotter for more information). Despite accusations that Ms. Tipton may have played some role in the incident, at this time, no charges have been laid, and police are treating the incident as accidental.

One police offer was subsequently reprimanded for attempting to secure an autograph from a Ms. Ashley Tisdale, who turned out to be Ms. Fitzpatrick. The officer was undeterred by the protesting of Ms. Fitzpatrick assuring the officer that she was, in fact, not the actress in question, and the situation quickly escalated. The officer will attend sensitivity training to remedy his malfeasance and training on when it is appropriate for an officer to brandish and use his taser. Ms. Fitzpatrick sustained minor injuries during the incident and has agreed not to press charges.

Police will continue to investigate the incident and release further information as it becomes available.
