A powerhouse lineup of game-changing stars.
Baseball season is upon us and the folks at A&E and Major League Baseball Productions are eager to remind you, paying enthusiast, that no matter what team you may cross paths with, there is likely to be an MLB Superstar Impact Player to watch.
That's what this hour-long feature feels like: a marketing pitch to season ticket holders. So you've been issued the sad fate of being a committed Kansas City Royals fan, huh? Don't turn in those stubs! Think of all the big name players you could be watching in the summer! Robinson Cano! Dustin Pedroia! Justin Verlander! Prince Fielder! David Price! And so many more! Besides, the Kansas City Chiefs are looking pretty terrible anyway, so spend your money at the ballpark!
Basically, someone came up with a list of awesome baseball players, represented by a wide cross-section of teams and the filmmakers set out to cull together a series of small vignettes featuring commentary on the specific player by teammates, peers and analysts; buttressed by highlight footage. What you end up with is a hyper-condensed who's who of the best and brightest the league has to offer.
And that's really it. If you're after a guide to better baseball card trading, you could do a lot worse.
The DVD: 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen, 2.0 stereo and 20 minutes worth of bonus footage including a collection of walk-offs, phenom firsts, Troy Tolowitzki hitting for the cycle, and highlights of Matt Cain's perfect game.
Not Guilty. It's baseball players doing baseball things.
