The Case

Anyone with a pulse is probably aware of the New Orleans Saints' run up to the Super Bowl and eventual conquest of the favored Colts. NFL Network has selected four games from the 2009 season to spotlight. Thankfully, the Saints' epic smackdown of the Patriots on Monday Night Football isn't one of them.

Disc One: Week 13, Saints vs. Redskins
I'm not one to buy into "destiny" arguments for championship teams, but this astounding win would prove to be a harbinger of the crazy crap that would happen in the Saints favor during their run. How else do you explain a 23-yard field goal shank?

Disc Two: NFC Divisional Playoffs, Saints vs. Cardinals
This was actually a boring game, its outcome not in question for a while, but it suffices to show what kind of offensive fireworks this team was capable of detonating.

Disc Three: NFC Championship Game, Saints vs. Vikings
An absolute classic and Part 2 in the Shocking Choke Job Trilogy that would propel the Saints into glory. I know Brett Favre constantly plays the will-he or won't-he card when it comes to his retirement, but how does the guy not come back after pulling off one of the most miserable choke plays ever seen on a football field?!

Disc Four: Super Bowl XLIV, Saints vs. Colts
Great game. Colts were favored and they came to play, but it was yet another stunning misfire that allowed the Saints to hoist the trophy. Peyton Manning, in his element, leading his team down the field to tie it up and he…well, in case you haven't seen it I won't spoil it. The real play of the game was Lance Moore's ridiculous reception for a two-point conversion. Ridiculous.

And that's your set. Four discs, four broadcast games, and nothing else. The plays aren't even edited as replay games are on the NFL network. You're getting the whole thing, painful challenge lag times and all. The games look fine in 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen, but, as I've stated before in these NFL game collections, if you watched it original in high-def, the downgrade is drastic. And no extras? Not even a snippet of the Super Bowl celebration?
