All Rise...

Hey Bam, Judge Franck Tabouring is hiding Santa Claus in his closet.

Editor's Note

Our review of Bam Margera Presents: Where The #$&% Is Santa?, published December 24th, 2008, is also available.

The Charge

Bam Margera celebrates Christmas like never before…in your face!

Opening Statement

Die-hard Bam Margera fans who can't get enough of his silly escapades and think everything he says or does is 100 percent hilarious will undoubtedly have a blast watching Bam Margera Presents Where the #$&% Is Santa?. Everyone else, beware! This is by far not as amusing as some of the other stuff Bam has had a hand in over the past years.

Facts of the Case

The film's title is fairly self-explanatory. Bored out of their minds during the days leading up to Christmas Eve, Bam and his buddies decide to take a short trip to Finland to find Santa Claus and bring him back home…

The Evidence

Whoa, what a disappointment! When I first heard about this project and read its synopsis, I certainly didn't exclude the possibility that this could indeed make for an amusing trip, but now that I've seen it, I realize I was totally wrong. Where the #$&% Is Santa? is a painful experience, and I struggled real hard to suppress my desire to turn it off after the first 15 minutes. It's really unfortunate though, because I always enjoyed watching Viva La Bam. It was an idiotic show, but some of the activities Bam and co. engaged in where definitely crazy and original enough to deliver some light, brainless entertainment.

This adventure, however, is the complete opposite. Bam and his friends don't do anything they haven't done already, and the excitement behind their usually humorous ideas is all gone. Instead, the bunch heavily relies on a series of lame dialogue and unsuccessful jokes, most of which are just repetitive and embarrassing. Bam comes up with maybe one or two funny ways to anger one of this friends, but that's all he's got in store for us this time. Everything else they do on their so-called spontaneous trip to Finland is downright forgettable.

I really don't know why this movie ended up becoming such a failure, but there a few possibilities that could help explain its lack in creativity and humor. One thing I noticed early on is the absence of some funny Viva La Bam regulars. Gone are people like Ryan Dunn, Don Vito, Chris Raab, Rakeyohn and Brandon Dicamillo, whose wild and unique personalities brought a lot of variety to the show. The people Bam hangs out this time aren't as crazy or hilarious.

Where the #$&% Is Santa? is also a whole lot more scripted than anything else we've seen Bam do recently, and that may be another reason why some of the potential gags in the film are badly timed and most of the people making an appearance just come across as less credible and spontaneous than you would want them to. Besides that, Bam and his loser buddies just don't have anything remotely entertaining to offer. I don't know about you, but I find no pleasure at all in watching those guys tattoo a map on Mark Hanna, repeatedly kick Brandon Novak in the face, or play around with reindeer penises.

Most of the film on this Blu-ray edition looks decent enough, although there are a bunch of scenes that look a little too grainy still for my taste. The disc also comes with a Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround audio transfer, and while it's not necessarily the best, it does serve its purpose. Moronic dialogue doesn't need a first-class sound treatment anyway.

The special features are pretty thin, and besides a mediocre photo gallery, the bonus material includes 20 minutes of additional footage. What you'll see here is no different than the feature film.

Closing Statement

Bam's trip to Finland to find Santa is an utterly boring experience. Unless you adore ultra-vulgar jokes and have plenty of time or money to waste, I recommend you skip this one and invest in a season of Viva La Bam instead, if you haven't already.

The Verdict

Guilty. Bam's been a bad boy this year! No gifts for him from Santa Claus.
