All Rise...Judge David Johnson takes care of his body just fine thank you. You should just see his deltoids. Whatever those are. The ChargePromoting social and emotional fitness for kids. The CaseTrevor Romain is a children's book author and illustrator and motivational speaker who focuses on making sure your kid doesn't grow up to be an obese a-hole. With this release, he turns his playful art and storytelling style towards fitness and eating right, using his characters Jack, Skye and Darryl, three cartoon kids that he apparently communicates to through his canvas. The kids are gearing up for a Field Day, where they will compete as Team Underdog against the superbly conditioned Team Extreme. Despite the pleas from Trevor to exercise and modify their eating habits, the kids instead keep up their slovenly lifestyle of playing video games, watching TV and eating crap. When the big day eventually arrives, our protagonists are stunned and humiliated when they're systematically defeated in ever event. Dejected they ask Trevor to use his magic powers (?) to alter the space-time continuum and send them back into the past so they can reconfigure their exercise regimen. Bidding farewell to bad food and a couch potato mindset, the kids start over and do much better in the field day. Hooray for fitness! Hooray indeed. You could do a lot worse than this cheerful, charming and syrupy 30-minute lesson on fighting childhood obesity. The animation is clean, simple and attractive, Trevor Romain is charismatic host and the exercise and eating tips are easy to understand and helpful. Plus there's a strangely catchy techno song called "Move Everybody" that will haunt my subconscious for some time. If you want to get your kids to consider prying themselves away from the Xbox 360 and maybe eat a celery stalk or two I'd recommend giving this DVD a whirl. Or you can, you know, set boundaries. Full frame, 2.0 stereo, some tips from Trevor and a music video and that's your disc.
