Facts of the Case
Alex Jones knows something that you don't: there is a war going on in this world between us (the people) and them (the global elites). Since the early days of American democracy, the population has slowly become dominated by a mix of secret societies, corporations, globalists, and intelligence operatives. No longer are our rights sacrosanct or our liberties guaranteed; today we face the specter of prison camps, implanted microchips, and martial law. Once the greatest democracy on earth, we now teeter on the edge of a military dictatorship eager to abuse and destroy anyone who dares oppose it.
Terrorstorm (2nd Edition) is an expanded version of the same film released by Jones in 2006. Through an examination of current and past events Jones sketches out the goals, means, and results of those who control the world from behind the scenes. A mix of interviews and documentary footage, Terrorstorm (2nd Edition) pulls back the curtain on our true masters and exposes their nefarious plan for global domination.
I took Terrorstorm (2nd Edition)to task the first time around when it was called Terrorstorm: A History of Government Sponsored Terrorism. In that initial review I judged the film harshly for its cheap production values, wild conspiracy theories, poor factual content, and ridiculous conclusions. I called the film "generally bad," "messy," and "damaging," and I suggested that it hampered the discussion of government interference into our lives rather than encouraged it. In short; I played the part of the bully, while the film played the role of the skinny teenager being wedgied in the boy's locker room.
Frankly, I got a fair amount of flak for it. My "fair trial?" ratings for the original Terrorstorm currently sits at 12 "yes" and 9 "no," making it my most voted-on review. I received email accusing me of being a "sheep" and asserting that I would be one of the many to suffer when the New World Order took over (we have lots of good stuff worth seizing in Canada, you know). I also found that of the other reviews available, mine was by far the most negative. In fact, I had just about the only review that didn't praise the film as an eye-opening expose of corrupt power run amok.
I felt the stirrings of self-doubt, as if I had made a mistake and judged the film too harshly. Was I overlooking a buried gem? Perhaps I had such a narrow view that it kept me from seeing the truth through all the lies? Unfortunately, I chose not to keep the original Terrorstorm in my personal DVD collection, so another viewing wasn't possible. With my self-confidence shaken, I decided to go ahead and request the film a second time to see if I needed to have a fresh look. Would a new edition with added content put my original conclusion to shame? Would Terrorstorm (2nd Edition), finally get its due from this judge?
Jones addresses three major topics in Terrorstorm (2nd Edition):
"False flag" Operations: The first part of the film details the history of so-called "false flag" operations. These are covert government-sponsored activities designed to spread fear and provide excuses for government control. Jones focuses on events such as the 1933 Reichstag fire in Nazi Germany, the 1953 CIA-led overthrow of the Iranian government, and the 1964 Gulf of Tonkin incident that provided the catalyst for open U.S. participation in the Viet Nam conflict. In each case, Jones details how these actions involved propaganda, violence, and deceit all designed to promote a pre-determined agenda and encourage military action.
7/7 London Bombings: Jones asserts that the London bombings of July 7, 2005 were an attempt to acquire wider government powers and to help bolster Prime Minister Tony Blair's approval ratings. With the help of MI5 (the internal British security agency) Blair and his cronies recruited and duped innocent pawns into carrying explosives onto subway trains and buses in the heart of London. In response, the government cracked down on public demonstrations, upped security, and passed laws limiting personal liberties. Jones uses evidence to demonstrate the willingness of the British government to harm its own population in order to create fear and implement change.
9/11 Attacks: Like other "false flag" operations before it, Jones contends the attacks of 9/11 were simply another in a long-line of government actions against its own people. In this instance the CIA recruited the so-called terrorists, tricked them into being on the airliners, and remotely directed the planes into the World Trade Center. Iraq and al Qaeda provided convenient scapegoats and permitted the Pentagon to accomplish its two-headed agenda; establish permanent military bases in a U.S.-controlled Iraq and expand its power over American citizens.

I took Jones to task in my initial review of Terrorstorm: A History of Government Sponsored Terrorism for providing a shoddy, poorly assembled mix of conjecture, junk science, and unaccredited media reports. Unfortunately, nothing has changed with the second edition of the film. As before, the viewer is left to deal with a "documentary" that is so blind to any position other than it's own that what could be an interesting examination of government misdeeds becomes a rant supported by only the thinnest of so-called evidence. It's painfully obvious that Jones considers any "official" information on current events to be out-right lies and refuses to believe that any incident is what it seems regardless of the evidence provided. Jones continues to cling to media reports made only hours after the initial attacks of 9/11, when evidence was scant or inaccurate, and nobody really knew what was going on. Jones doesn't seem to realize that a news anchor giving an opinion (or making an erroneous statement) does not constitute hard evidence. Jones' provides almost no actual evidence for any of his 9/11 or London bombing theories, but instead relies on a thin patchwork of rumors and reports glued together with innuendo to create his proof.

Further examination reveals that the majority of articles sited in the documentary come from highly suspicious sources, such as websites or journals which appear to have no journalism accreditation or follow the same conspiracy theories as Jones adheres to. In fact, the largest source of information used by Jones in Terrorstorm (2nd Edition) appears to be his own websites, which I'm pretty sure isn't the most legitimate way to assemble evidence. The British "reporters" Jones' consults on the events surrounding the London bombings are actually writers for his site, which gives the viewer an idea as to the insular nature of Jones and his theories. Even when Jones does refer to mainstream new stories, a close inspection usually reveals that the stories are reporting on other sources, such as studies or books claiming opposing views to the official line, and are not opinions originating from the actual news source being cited.
Jones will argue that the mainstream media has deliberately ignored these stories and evidence. This represents the biggest flaw in Jones' argument, as far as I can tell. Does he really believe that not a single media source or newspaper in the entire world would run stories that proved the Bush administration was involved in planning or covering up the attacks on 9/11? What about the New York Times, The Nation, Mother Jones, or other media outlets that have a bias against the current conservative government? Does Jones really believe that the press in Canada, France, Germany, and so on are all under the control of the same cabal of elites, and that all sources of mainstream news are being prohibited from telling the "real" story? Apparently, he does. For Jones, the tentacles of the New World Order know no limits or constraints.
Terrorstorm (2nd Edition) contains an additional 17 minutes of footage, updating some of the information provided in the first edition. Jones includes new footage of his rally during the fifth anniversary of the attacks in New York City, and produces footage related to the collapse of Building 7 at the World Trade Center. In addition, there are new interviews with author Gore Vidal and former governor Jesse "The Body" Ventura (Predator), two men who are included more for their star appeal than their opinions. Neither sheds any new light on Jones' theories, but merely asserts further generalizations and suspicions about events. Jones' also continues to get plenty of mileage out of actor Charlie Sheen (Hot Shots), who suggested publicly that the official explanation of the World Trade Center attack was suspicious. Sheen's statements about 9/11 are highlighted during an appearance on the Jimmy Kimmel show and are reviewed at-length by Jones. Watching Jones milk the media attention to its fullest, one gets the impression that Sheen's appearance on Jones' radio show has probably done much more to boost Jones' profile than Sheen's.
As far as visuals go, Terrorstorm (2nd Edition) is something of a dog's breakfast. Much of the content consists of screenshots, web casts and archived footage which is often grainy and low-quality. The interview and protest segments fare better, being shot recently on digital video. The editing is tolerable, but the visual effects are cheaply done and highlight the independent feel of this release. Audio is acceptable, although there is nothing here that requires any significant work by your set-up.
The extra features on Terrorstorm (2nd Edition) are identical to the previous edition of the film. Viewers get a trailer for other Alex Jones films, addressing the coming martial law and the agenda of secret societies such as the Bohemian Grove, which Jones' "infiltrated" some time back. In addition, there is an hour of speeches taken from Jones' "9/11 & Neo-Con Agenda Symposium" held in Los Angeles in 2005. Essentially an hour of speeches from members of the "9/11 Truth Movement," the speakers address political and engineering issues surrounding the attack on the World Trade Center, and the advancement of government control over the people. The symposium materials will no doubt be of interest to followers of Jones' work, but for those wishing to learn new facts about the investigations the material is merely further supposition without any clear evidence.
The Rebuttal Witnesses
Somebody has to be willing to stand up and point a finger at a government that implements warrant-less searches, secret tribunals, and covert military actions. I just wish it was someone that didn't also believe that vaccines cause cancer and fluoridation is a New World Order plot. But Alex Jones, whatever his limitations and faults as a filmmaker, is one of those few citizens willing to rock the boat and say what he believes. You may not agree with him—you may even be horrified—but the man is using his rights and liberties to their fullest. The more of us doing that and the better off we will all be.
Has the U.S government been involved in a mess of dirty tricks in the past, both domestic and foreign? Absolutely. But past actions do not immediately denote current events as being part-and-parcel of the same situation. The attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon remain the most studied terrorist events in history, but Jones continues to regard any new evidence or opinion as suspect simply because it differs with his own. Is Jones any less sheep-like for refusing to accept contrary evidence than those he makes out to be fools for accepting any "legitimate" explanation blindly? Isn't there a middle ground somewhere where Jones would be willing to tolerate some dissent to his own opinions? It appears not.
