Kathy Smith is an icon in the fitness industry, and with good reason. The passionate she has for her work is contagious, her routines are easy to follow, and she provides specific instructions to help you get the most out of your workout. Her latest endeavor, Total Body Lift consists of a 5-minute warm-up and four 15-minute routines concentrating on four major areas of the body:
• Upper Body Lift
The overall workout is basic but effective, with concentrated movements even beginners should be able to handle. Performing them for the entire runtime may be a different story, but that'll give you something to work up to. I sure felt the burn. If it ever gets to be too much, beginner modifications are available. In addition, light hand weights can be used, to beef up the session. You'll need a towel, chair, and mat for the full effect.
While all of your muscles will be toned, this DVD doesn't do anything to satisfy your aerobic or flexibility needs. Although, at the end of each section, Kathy does help quickly stretch out the areas you've worked. I recommended popping in this workout two to three times a week, and on the off days doing some sort of activity that'll raise your heart rate—walking, jogging, biking, kickboxing, skydiving, what have you. Alternatively, you could do one section each day, combined with another fitness activity of your choice. Whatever works best.
The audio and video presentation suit the material, and the workout can be viewed with or without Kathy's energetic instructions. There are no bonus features.
Guilty of making me feel leaner and younger, even if I don't show it yet.
