WEEKEND EDITION
The Toronto Film Festival is underway and we have two team members -- Judge Adam Arseneau and Magistrate Eric MacDonald -- on the front lines bringing all the action home for Cinema Verdict.
Over on the TV side, three highly anticipate series make their fall debut next week, starting with Alan Ball's True Blood on Sunday (HBO), The Sarah Connor Chronicles Season Two on Monday (Fox), and JJ Abrams' Fringe (Fox) on Tuesday. Keep an eye on TV Verdict for news and reviews throughout the season.
And over here, we had quite the TV on DVD fixation this first full week of September...
Judge Paul Pritchard is groovin' to The CW's new animated Spidey series, "With sombre superheroes being the current trend on both the big and small screen, The Spectacular Spider-Man is a return to more innocence and fun."
Even after four seasons, Judge Mac McEntire is still flying high with Ben 10, "If you've ever sat through something like Yu-Gi-Oh and wondered, "Why don't they make 'em like they used to?" then Ben 10 is for you."
Judge David Johnson drooled over Supernatural: Season Three, "this installment of Supernatural is one of the most entertaining seasons of television I've seen, right up there with Angel and Buffy."
And Judge Erich Asperschlager reminded us, The Office: Season Four "is better than 90% of anything else on TV."
But the accolades hit the brakes, when Judge Dylan Charles took on History Channel's UFO Hunters: Season One: "I haven't seen such a mangling of science since my sixth-grade science fair project about werewolves."
And Judge Clark Douglas was pulling no punches on either of his series assignments. "Let's not sugarcoat things. Heroes: Season Two has some serious problems." And with regards to the Blu-ray release of Justice League: Season One, "The hit-and-miss quality of the episodes discourages me from recommending spending forty bucks on an upgrade."
Enjoy your weekend! We'll see you back here next week for the premiere of Eric and Dave's brand new sketch comedy podcast Candy Bar Drive Thru, as well as reviews of Chuck: Season One, The Big Lebowski: 10th Anniversary Edition, and more!
