If you decide that yoga is not your thing, you can always use this DVD as a drinking game. Every time instructor Tara Stiles says, "Awesome," take a sip. Every time she says, "Awesome, you guys," pound a shot. You will soon be doing the corpse pose, whether you want to or not.
Her monotone and repetitive presentation aside, Stiles has put together an effective yoga practice. Some people believe yoga is all breathing and stretching. Oh, you'll be breathing all right, but only to distract yourself from those shaking muscles. This is an all over strengthening workout, with the stretching missing from many other workouts. Yoga Transformation: Strength and Energy is more advanced than Yoga Transformation: Weight Loss and Balance, so start with that one if you are a beginner.
Deepak Chopra's 15-minute meditation begins with an intro on how to clear our minds, followed by a music-only segment in which we are supposed to do so. I have a hard time meditating without being continuously guided. Luckily the music is accompanied by gorgeous footage of Joshua Tree National Park (one of my favorite places on earth) so we can watch, listen, and relax, even if our minds don't want to clear.
The specs: 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen and Dolby 2.0 stereo, both of which are awesome, you guys. And if you want to hear more from our fearless leaders, a handful of featurettes about yoga and meditation are included as extras.
