Eight Stupid Questions with Ron Jeremy

Judge Patrick Naugle

March 31st, 2003

To some he is an American idol. To others he is the embodiment of all that is evil and wrong in our world. To me Ron Jeremy is an overweight schlub who has had sex on film with over 4,000 women and counting. In Ron's vast movie career (stretching from the early 1970s to the new millennium), he's starred in everything from high class porn (if there is even such a thing), sleazy exploitation sex flicks (I definitely know there's such a thing), and mainstream Hollywood entertainment, including parts in films like Killing Zoe and the cult comedy Orgazmo. With his a new documentary on DVD -- Porn Star: The Legend of Ron Jeremy -- Ron has become one of the world's most unlikely pop culture figures. Recently I had the chance to ask Ron a few stupid questions...

1.) Who was the first person to name you the Hedgehog?

Bill Margold. I didn't know there was winter weather in certain parts of L.A. I went up to Lake Arrowhead, which is an hour and a half drive out of Los Angeles. Froze my nut sack off. He throws me in a shower with this girl named Connie Peterson. I came out looking all pink and furry. [Hence the name]

2.) How do you feel about the way porn has changed over the years from the plot driven style of the 1970s and '80s to the gonzo style of the 1990s?

How do I feel about? I don't feel well as an actor. I have a BA in theater. Gonzo has it's place but I'm still a big fan of acting.

3.) Who is nuttier? Trey Parker of Matt Stone [of "South Park" fame]?

That's a tough question. That's a draw. Maybe Matt, by a little bit.

4.) When you're retired from porn, what do you want to be remembered for?

On my tombstone I'd have it say "Here lies Ron Jeremy. He had a good time without hurting anybody. Stepped up the ladder of success and his bank account without giving anybody else any grief."

5.) Do you believe in God?

Generally yes. Being in adult movies people think we're far from that. But I don't really think so. We're consenting adults have sex, and consenting adults watch. I think the Lord's fine with that.

6.) What is your favorite movie, non-porn?

Quest for Fire.

7.) What was it like having a camera crew following you around?

It wasn't an entire crew, just one or two guys. It was fine. No problem at all. I think it was less than two days. No problems.

8.) Is there any actress that you think is very attractive outside of porn?

Fairuza Balk, who's a friend of mine, the girl from The Craft. A lot of them. Madonna. That I would like to do, right? Michelle Pfeiffer. Alanis Morrissete. So cute.
