DVD Verdict

The Best of Judge Mike Rubino (Jun 2007 - present)

Rambo: The Complete Collector's Set (6 Jun 2008)
The Rambo films have a very special place in my heart. Their over-the-top action is matched only by Frank Stallone's cheesy-good crooning. My favorite part of this review was watching that tank headbutt the helicopter over and over so I could get a frame grab.

The Incredible Hulk: The Complete Series (10 Nov 2008)
Since joining DVD Verdict, I have reviewed four installments of the classic television series The Fugitive. The Incredible Hulk is like that show's gamma-stricken nephew. It's got all the trappings of the Richard Janssen series, but with a wild green guy in his place. That makes it better, right?

Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film For Theaters For DVD (20 Aug 2007)
This is the only DVD I've seen that has a "deleted movie" as a special feature. As if the original movie wasn't absurd enough, I had to watch a deleted version of that movie shown as animatics.

Pierrot Le Fou: Criterion Collection (19 Feb 2008)
Godard's film is a pop art extravaganza, and I had a lot of fun deconstructing it for the review. If you want to seem really hip and intelligent, just have this movie playing in the background, the next time you invite some friends over. You'll be the coolest.

Live Free Or Die Hard: Two-Disc Special Edition (19 Nov 2007)
I went to see this movie the midnight before its release and the film literally melted before my eyes while Bruce Willis was straddling that fighter jet. It was too hardcore for the film it was printed on.

Vincent Price: MGM Scream Legends Collections (8 Oct 2007)
When I requested this box set, my original plan was to watch all of the movies in one sitting. I was going to eat a big dinner, sit down with some friends, and watch them through the night. I did, in fact, watch them all within a 24 hour period... and then regretted that decision.

Redbelt (15 Aug 2008)
David Mamet does Rocky, and it totally works. Not only is the movie really cool, it also has Tim Allen "pretending" to be a washed-up actor. I'm just happy I avoided the trap of writing the review in Mamet's own staccato style.

Robinson Crusoe On Mars: Criterion Collection (24 Sep 2007)
The movie was a piece of forgotten sci-fi geekery, unearthed and dusted off by the watchful eye of the Criterion Collection. What I appreciated about this movie is the fact that pretty much every "theory" presented about Mars was disproved a year after the release. That had to sting.

Zodiac: 2-Disc Director's Cut (21 Jan 2008)
Forget withering Brad Pitt, this is easily Fincher's best work to date. This review also features one of my more creative teaser lines: "Judge Mike Rubino originally submitted his review in Dingbats with a note Please rush to Michael Stailey!" What wit!
