Appellate Judge James A. Stewart has learned a lot from writing and editing reviews for DVD Verdict. He has seen Charlie Chaplin direct movies without a script, viewed every East German sci-fi film available on DVD, found similarities between Alfred Hitchcock's Lifeboat and J.J. Abrams's Lost, and noticed that some Bollywood DVDs have listed running times that include snack breaks, a practice he hopes will extend to all filmic genres. And, yes, he has learned that "filmic genres" is a suitably pretentious phrase that makes him sound knowledgeable.
Stewart is a freelance writer and editor from the Pittsburgh area who worked evening shifts as a desk editor in newspapers for years. It is no coincidence that when he started to keep more regular hours, those low-budget, late-night syndicated action shows from Canada faded off TV schedules.
