Appellate Judge James A. Stewart
• Location: Butler, PA
Appellate Judge James A. Stewart has learned a lot from writing and editing reviews for DVD Verdict. He has seen Charlie Chaplin direct movies without a script, viewed every East German sci-fi film available on DVD, found similarities between Alfred Hitchcock's Lifeboat and J.J. Abrams's Lost, and noticed that some Bollywood DVDs have listed running times that include snack breaks, a practice he hopes will extend to all filmic genres. And, yes, he has learned that "filmic genres" is a suitably pretentious phrase that makes him sound knowledgeable.
Stewart is a freelance writer and editor from the Pittsburgh area who worked evening shifts as a desk editor in newspapers for years. It is no coincidence that when he started to keep more regular hours, those low-budget, late-night syndicated action shows from Canada faded off TV schedules.

Average Scales of Justice
The Scale Modifiers are the difference between the Judge's average scores and the average scores for the site as a whole. You can add/subtract this value from the score he/she gives in a review to see how their scoring differs from the site as a whole. The adjusted score should not reflect any bias on the part of the judge.
